Previous version: Cael AR v1

What distinguishes the Cael is its slender blade and thoughtfully contoured design — unparalleled control and dexterity when navigating the intricate chest cavity of game animals.
The handle was painstakingly designed with the hunter in mind: a built-in index guard and ergonomically shaped grip for safety, particularly in low-light conditions.
The top choice for hunters and professionals who demand precision, control and versatility in game processing.
Every maker has one model that defines them. For the hunting side of our range, it is the Cael — the knife our professional deer-stalking customers reach for when the work is precise, repeated, and cannot go wrong.
Deer processing is close, careful work — much of it done by feel, inside the chest cavity, often in failing light. The Cael’s slender 100mm blade, just 16.5mm wide, was contoured for exactly that: unparalleled control and dexterity where a broader blade binds and blunders. The thoughtfully shaped tip finds its line and holds it; the narrow profile turns inside the carcass without tearing what it should not touch.
The grip was designed around the hunter’s hand, not the other way round. A built-in index guard keeps fingers off the edge when the knife is slick and sight is limited, and the ergonomic shaping keeps long sessions comfortable — a detail you stop noticing until you process three deer in an evening and your hand does not ache. It is a small thing to describe and a large thing to use.
The top choice for hunters and professionals who demand precision, control and versatility.
The v1 remains in the range for those who prefer the original guardless pattern — many long-time daily carriers do. The Cael Lockback folds the same blade thinking into a pocketable form, and the Arcaelis pairs this handle with the Artemis blade for low-light specialists. Few knives we make have earned this much of a family around them.
No Cael is pulled from a shelf. At commission you choose the steel — stainless RWL-34, PMC27 or AEB-L, carbon O1, or our in-house stainless Damascus, pattern-welded in Petworth from RWL-34 and PMC27 in patterns from Ladder to Odin’s Eye. Each has its own character; we will talk you through what suits the work you have in mind.
The handle is shaped to the blade from your choice of materials — stabilised woods and burls to fossilised mammoth ivory — and finished with standard or mosaic pins. Engraving is done in-house: initials, crests, and species studies fine enough to count the hairs.
We make every sheath here, moulded precisely to the individual knife. Most Caels go out in leather — black, brown, or a colour of your choosing, with hand-tooling and engraved silver panels available for presentation pieces — though Kydex on our hybrid leather system is the right answer for hard, wet use.
No two Caels leave the workshop quite alike, and each one is treated accordingly: numbered, recorded in the ledger, warranted for life against manufacturing defects, and dispatched sharpened, papered and insured. It is the sort of record-keeping that matters on the day a knife becomes an inheritance.
When you are ready, design yours in the design tool or simply start the conversation — the finished piece always comes out of one.
Sharpened, papered and ready to send from Petworth. Sold pieces stay listed for reference.
