Don't let its size fool you — with a 3.5-inch blade, the Peryton Mini is more than capable of handling small deer too.
Not every knife in the range began with a drawing. The Peryton Mini began with a laser cutter, a plastic template, and a scaling error we still cannot fully explain — the test piece came out 30% smaller than intended.
The sensible thing would have been to recut the template. Instead we handled the small one, liked it, and built it. What the error produced was a genuinely useful proportion nobody would have specified on paper: the Peryton’s balance and blade shape at a scale that suits the smallest quarry. It has since gathered a devoted following among those who work small game and birds.
Do not let the size fool you. The 3.5″ blade is more than capable of handling small deer — it is a working knife in miniature, not a novelty. The full-size handle keeps an adult grip in charge of a short, precise edge: rabbit, pigeon, and woodcock work becomes almost surgical, and there is no excess steel to get in the way.
As the smallest non-folding knife in our collection, the Mini makes a natural second blade beside a Garron or Harrier — commissioned together, the pair can share handle material and sheath work, which makes for a quietly handsome set.
No Peryton Mini is pulled from a shelf. At commission you choose the steel — stainless RWL-34, PMC27 or AEB-L, carbon O1, or our in-house stainless Damascus, pattern-welded in Petworth from RWL-34 and PMC27 in patterns from Ladder to Odin’s Eye. Each has its own character; we will talk you through what suits the work you have in mind.
The handle is shaped to the blade from your choice of materials — stabilised woods and burls to fossilised mammoth ivory — and finished with standard or mosaic pins. Engraving is done in-house: initials, crests, and species studies fine enough to count the hairs.
We make every sheath here, moulded precisely to the individual knife. Most Peryton Minis go out in leather — black, brown, or a colour of your choosing, with hand-tooling and engraved silver panels available for presentation pieces — though Kydex on our hybrid leather system is the right answer for hard, wet use.
No two Peryton Minis leave the workshop quite alike, and each one is treated accordingly: numbered, recorded in the ledger, warranted for life against manufacturing defects, and dispatched sharpened, papered and insured. It is the sort of record-keeping that matters on the day a knife becomes an inheritance.
When you are ready, design yours in the design tool or simply start the conversation — the finished piece always comes out of one.
Sharpened, papered and ready to send from Petworth. Sold pieces stay listed for reference.
Every commission starts from the Peryton Mini blueprint. Set the steel, handle material, engraving and sheath in the design tool, and we’ll come back with a quote.
