Owning an Emberleaf
A knife for life is a commitment from both ends of the bench. Here is what comes with the blade — and what the workshop will do for it, for as long as you own it.

The number
Every knife that leaves the workshop carries its own project number, etched on the blade and logged at the bench — the same entry system we’ve kept since 2012, now past five thousand projects. The number ties your knife to its record: model, steel, handle material, the year it was built. A sample of past numbered commissions is public in the archive.

The warranty
Lifetime, against manufacturing defects — heat-treat issues, hidden cracks, fittings that come loose under normal use. Wear, abuse, lost edges and chipped tips from prying aren’t covered, but we’ll quote the repair and usually keep it modest. Faulty goods are refunded in full, including delivery costs — details on delivery & returns.
Keeping the edge
A leather strop charged with green compound after use handles most of it. Under heavy use, re-bevel on Japanese water stones — 1000 then 6000 grit — every six months or so. The edge maintenance kit covers both.
Or send it in. Every blade we make can come back to the bench that ground it:
| Scandinavian grind | £20 |
|---|---|
| Micro bevel, up to 5.5″ | £12 |
| Micro bevel, 5.5–10″ | £18 |
All prices + £8 postage & packaging, any maker’s knife welcome. Full details on the sharpening service page.
Care of the handle
Stabilised burls and dyed woods are dimensionally stable; a yearly wipe of food-grade mineral oil keeps them lustrous. Mammoth ivory is sensitive to dry heat — keep it away from radiators and direct sun. Carbon-steel blades want a wipe of oil after cleaning; the patina that follows is part of the knife.
Restoration & inherited blades
Re-grinding, re-handling, re-leathering, re-finishing — we welcome well-worn and inherited Emberleafs back for restoration. If a knife has come to you secondhand or through family, send us the project number from the blade and a photo via the contact page and we’ll quote. Examples of past work are on the repair & refurbishment page.
Returns
Any purchase can be returned within 14 days of receipt for a refund of the item’s value — see delivery & returns for the full policy. Commissions are covered by the terms agreed at deposit, set out in the commission guide.
